about the artist ...
A formally trained artist working in Canada, my studio practice includes painting, mixed media works on paper, sculpture, and installation.
Painting is the focus of my studio work. My paintings are abstract, gestural, and highly textured. I lay the materials on in a combination of thick and thin, revealing the support and the physical marks that I make.
Colour is important as an expressive statement and texture invites the viewer into the space of the work. My intent is to create images with an aura of immediacy and emotion.
Many of my recent works have my original poetry embedded within as a sign of meaning beyond what is seen. In all my work, the concepts are driven by ideas about identity, relationships, and place but paramount is the sheer visceral pleasure of making.
